Aslam drove us to Mount Nelson Tuesday afternoon where we would be spending the next few days. We were a little nervous that it would not be able to compete with the Ellerman House, but Mount Nelson didn't disappoint. We had very spacious room with a large balcony with a view Lion's Head, and as the weather had cleared we felt teased by the clear sky after our morning hike in the rain.

Mount Nelson is a large resort, particularly in comparison to the Ellerman House, and is mostly pink. Our check in gift was craft-your-own-pink-gin-and-tonic station and pink macaroons, which we had a lot of fun with.

After enjoying our treat, we walked around the expansive hotel grounds and then took a walk in the Company's Garden, a large park in the middle of downtown Cape Town adjacent to the hotel, where we spotted an albino squirrel who seemed to be as curious about us.

Dinner Tuesday evening was at Fyn (pronounced Fain) and included a 10-course tasting menu. Food was great and creative. The portion sizes were very small so we left content and not stuffed.

Choice of meat for the main course was the only decision to make - Micki had the impala and Filip had the Gemsbok. They tasted very different from each other.
We spent both Wednesday and Thursday mornings in the fitness center and then took the shuttle to the waterfront in Cape Town. Dinners were both at Mount Nelson - on Wednesday we ate at the Red Room which was had a unique Asian-African fusion feel. On Thursday we were in the Chef's Kitchen at Mount Nelson- which was a unique experience. There were 2 tables set in small cove in the middle of the kitchen so you could watch as the chef, Isaac, prepared your 6-course meal. Each course included a story about someone or something important in Isaac's life.

However, we only made it through courses 1 and 2 because Micki didn't feel well. After they put course 3 on the table, she looked at Filip and said she felt like she was going to pass out, which she promptly did. Isaac and the host quickly got the GM who upon Filip's request brought us a wheel chair. They then pushed Micki in the wheelchair through the kitchen and the main part of the hotel back to our room (very embarrassing). And if that wasn't bad enough, the next 12 hours became even more challenging, including serial vomits, very little sleep, an African airlines strike resulting in a two-hour flight delay, downgraded seats (including one middle) and a lost bag (which we eventually found). We were pretty happy that our hotel in Johannesburg was across the street from the airport.
