 Today was our longest drive (630 miles) so far. We were feeling grateful to have a car that drives itself and as we were closing in on Saratoga Spring it started telling us that it was time to rest (not sure if that is because my driving had deteriorated significantly or just duration).  We opportunistically took advantage of driving through Maryland to update the car registration, which oddly had to be done in person. Fortunately it was easy. We arrived in Saratoga Spring about 8pm.  It is a cute little town and grabbed a charcuterie board at Max London's Restaurant along Broadway.  .  

245 miles. Wonderful afternoon and evening with Ellen and Allen, including a tour of Smith Mountain Lake (as well as Smith Mountain and Smith Mountain Dam) via motor boat and a delish dinner... We especially enjoyed playing with their delightful pup, Charlie.

310 miles today. We stayed at The  Radical  - "Asheville's most fantastical boutique hotel". Their tagline is fitting and their food was good.  The highlight was the DJ in the round metal ball above the bar.  We were pleasantly surprised by their unadvertised excellent fitness center.  Our driving entertainment included listening to a few chapters of  The Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut and exploring new artists: Victoria Monet (Jaguar 2) and War and Treaty (Lover's Game) and the Crawlers (The Mess We Seem to Make). Of the 3, we liked The Crawlers the best.  

After ~4 hr drive (302 miles) from Cedar Key to Savannah, we were greeted by the incredibly kind staff of  The Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront , who promptly gave us each a glass of champagne to drink. As Savannah's ordinance allows to-go cups within the confines of the historic district, we carried our champagne on our walk to Forsyth Park. Savannah was very pedestrian friendly, with many grassy squares surrounded by historic row-houses. While beautiful, the heat left us excited for Canada! Our dinner was a short walk away at  Garibaldi . We were gifted the best table in the house looking out onto  Congress Street where we were entertained by a series of potential drug deals.  The seafood gumbo was great.

We set off in the morning to explore on foot followed by lunch at Tony's , a "low-key spot known for clam chowder" (according to google). The award-winning clam chowder was good and the staff was very friendly.  Dinner at 29 North at 83 West where we enjoyed crab dip and steamed clams. The highlight was the view: bottle nose dolphins performed for us all evening, and sea birds, including 3 bright-pink flamingos flying by. We definitely recommend 29 North over Steamers (where we had dinner Day 1). Hotel: Island Place #108 airbnb

Today we started our 9,000+ mile roadtrip from Miami Beach into eastern Canada: Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Labrador and back to Florida. It should be a three month trip. Day 1 was Cedar Key - a mere 413 miles.
