Day 20, July 18: Today we had a tour booked on the northern most part of the Western Fjords to an old abandoned village called Hesteyri in Hornstrandir Nature Reserve. In the morning we walked to the dock from our hotel where we met our guide, Sheridan, and 2 other guests that would be joining us for the day. The goal of the tour was a combination of hiking and photography of arctic foxes - if we could spot them.  Given the size of the camera lenses of the other couple it was clear what they were mostly interested in.  Once we made it to Hesteyri we walked to the "Doctor's house" which seemed to be the meeting point for many as well as the local cafe (so even though the village was abandoned- it was still quite active).  After a quick stop, we walked to the old whaling station because there was a known fox den. Along the way we learned a lot about the plants and the birds in the nature reserve and saw two sunbathing seals.  Wild orchid along the coast One of the two...

 Day 11, July 9: We spent today in the Lake Mývatn area, starting with the Krafla Volcanic Zone which included a couple of short hikes.  We checked into our hotel, Hotel Myvatn by Berjaya and grabbed a quick bite to eat.  We were a little overwhelmed by the hordes of tourists so skipped the big sites and opted for a 5 mile hike from the lava fields and up the side of a volcano and the around the top edge of the volcano.   Viti - a volcanic crater in Krafla Leirhnjúkur - geothermal area in Krafla Leirhnjúkur -the other side "My bottom is getting warm" Dimmuborgir Lava Field - on the way to the crater On top of the crater looking inside  The hike went all the way around - and was pretty windy in spots The path down the outside of the crater - it was a tough climb up and kind of a slide down Dinner was back at our hotel- lamb and Arctic char.  Day 12, July 10:   Today we drove around the "Diamond Circle" and spent some time at Dettifoss Waterfall and Ásby...
