Day 54 (Sept 16, 2024) Barnard VT to Pawlet VT

We had a short, 62 mile drive down to Pawlet today, with a stop to hike up Haystack mountain.  Haystack mountain is maintained by The Nature Conservancy and the hiking trail was in great shape. The hike was about 3.5 miles round trip with a steep climb to the peak. The entire hike was in the forest until right at the end where the rocky top was in the sun with expansive views of the valleys below. We arrived around 12:30 and our carried Twin Farm-prepared sandwiches for picnic lunch about 1/2 up where we enjoyed them beside a flowing stream.

After our hike we headed over to Haystack Catering, where owners Mark and Margaret were preparing for an event tomorrow. Filip and Mark went to Cornel together and it was really fun to spend with them.

Next we headed down the street to their home for drinks on the back porch followed by dinner.

After many days of eating out it was wonderful to have a home cooked meal.
