Today's drive was a longer one, about 300 miles over just under 6 hours. We chose the scenic drive rather than highway. Our destination was Twin Farms. We expected this to be a nice resort, but wow, it is impressive.
When we arrived we were greeted in the courtyard by one of the staff members, who took our car keys and then ushered us onto a patio for a light lunch.
Meanwhile they took our car, washed it, unpacked it and parked it outside of our "treehouse" for the next three days. They also left us a golf cart to get around the resort.
As they gave us a tour of the property, they mentioned a scavenger hunt across the property. Filip rolled his eyes but Micki was all in. The scavenger hunt included 8 clues which directed us to eight little mailboxes, each with a "token". We changed our clothes, deciphered the clues and headed out. This was a great activity because it oriented us to the property, we got some exercise (about 6 miles worth) after the long drive and there were surprises all over the hiking trials. (And perhaps the biggest surprise- Filip was more into it than Micki).

One of the clues led us to a bench at the top of switchbacks. We found the token, but there was really nothing that exciting. Fortunately instead of heading down, Filip wandered down the path in the other direction. He found this:
In the end, we found six of the 8 prizes and we needed to get ready for dinner, so we have two left to find tomorrow. We got back to our room, we were going to sort our laundry but were really running short on time, so we decided to wait and left the huge pile of laundry (~2 wks worth) sitting on the kitchen floor for sorting in the morning.
There are two restaurant options for dinner- we chose the main dining room where we were served a creative tasting menu. The staff is superb - really friendly and engaging. Our treehouse is a delight, perhaps the most luxurious place we have stayed in in the US -it really reminds us of some of the places we have stayed in Africa.
We would definitely come back!
Oh- and we got back to our room - the pile of laundry was gone....
Drive was mostly two-lane roads through the white mountains with a touch of fall colors.
