Day 49 (Sept 11, 2024) Baie-Comeau, QC to Charlevoix, QC

Beautiful 172 mile drive along the St. Lawrence river today with a surprise ferry crossing about 3/4 of the way.  The ferry was short - only about 10 minutes and we debated about just staying in the car, but decided to hop out for a few minutes. This turned out to be a great decision as there was a whale playing in front of the ferry - although we were not successful getting pictures- it was really cool to watch.

Our home tonight is the Fairmont Le Manior Richelieu and we like it a lot more than the Fairmont in Quebec City that we stayed in about a month ago (Aug 2). Our room wasn't ready when we arrived so we camped out on the lawn and, as this our last night in Canada, ate our "emergency" food for lunch.

After checking in, we explored the hotel grounds a bit and stumbled upon a 4-mile out and back "planet" walk - which was set up to depict the relative distance of all the planets. It was unexpected, and a really nice hike.

In front of the hotel and at "earth" in the planet walk.

Our second animal sitting today was a groundhog resting peacefully in the lawn until ...

We had great weather and great views for the whole drive.
