Day 47 (Sept 9, 20224) Churchill Falls, NL to Relais-Gabriel QC

The rain continued through the morning and we knew we had a long drive, some on unpaved roads, so we started off early.  The drive was very smooth through Labrador City, but as we were leaving, we were behind an incredibly slow gray car on a two-lane road.  Filip passed it. About 5 minutes later a white car was coming towards us and turned on a blue light. The officer was very polite, said she was stopping us for speeding. She took all our paper work and wandered back to her car.  Remembering we had read if you were traveling >30 km over the speed limit you could have your car impounded for 7 days, Micki (panicking) kept asking Filip how fast we were going.  But alas, the polite officer returned and handed Filip his ticket. Weirdly the ticket didn't specify: 1) how fast we were going 2) the speed limit (we also weren't sure what that was) and 3) the amount that was due. And the gray car... it passed us while we were on the side of the road.

Our hotel tonight is Station Uapishka, which sits at the eye of the world. We have been pretty excited about seeing this, although to be honest it looks like we are just on a lake (which we are). The hotel is really a hostel (e.g., shared bathroom), but quite comfortable.  We went for a short hike (~5k) after checking in - although the hotel attendant suggested we should go for a real hike and called this one a "cute little walk".  (The real hikes all required a drive to get to the trailheads, and we weren't up for that today.)  The hike had lots of moss and fallen trees, and was pretty wet from the rain, but it was really well marked. Unfortunately it was little more than a walk in the woods, but it was nice to stretch our legs.

Drive was 309 miles. Weirdly Apple Maps doesn't think it possible, but googlemaps did.
