Day 44 (Sept 6, 2024) St Anthony, NL to Port Hope Simpson, NL

Today we made it to Labrador - our trip included a planned 1hr 45min ferry ride, but sadly the fog was so dense that when we were about 15 min away from our destination, we had to stop and wait until it was safe to proceed (~45 min).  The worst part was the fog horn that blew every 90 seconds- but for good reason. This was the last ferry ride of our trip and we were happy that this was the most trouble we had with ferry crossings.

The ferry actually docked in Quebec just outside the boarder to Labrador- which meant we were back to Eastern time (-1.5hrs) for about 30 min as we stopped at a roadside cafe for lunch before crossing the boarder.  We were the very last car off the ferry so we thought getting lunch would spread out the campers ahead of us and hopefully translate to fewer that needed to be passed (it did).

The drive in Labrador was beautiful and surprisingly different from Newfoundland - it felt more like we were in the western plains of the US with wide open areas surrounded by mountains.

We stayed at the Alexis Hotel in Port Hope Simpson- a small town of about 400 people. We walked around town (two streets) after checking in and before dinner. The weather could not have been better - particularly after the heavy fog.

Hotel was as expected for 400-person town in Labrador, but we were pleasantly surprised by the nice view out our window and the hotel restaurant was good. Our young server told us she could tell we weren't from around here. We asked her what gave it away and she said our accents. Just then a large group of construction workers walked in and started talking - we couldn't understand a word they said.

The total drive was 235 miles point to point (but a lot longer than 5hr and 16m)
