The weather report was bad, so while we wanted to do The Hike in Gros Morne National Park (a 10 mile trek up Gros Morne Mountain), we opted for the second most popular hike in the Tablelands. And while today was a non-driving day, the Tablelands were about an hour's drive away, but ironically only at most 10 miles away as the crow flies. The hike was called the Tablelands Trail and was pretty unique as it was mostly rock from a section of the oceanic crust and upper mantle (one of only two places where you can walk on the mantle). Very little vegetation grows as the rock is full of toxic metals. But, there were a ton of pitcher plants - the plants have to eat bugs because the ground is too toxic.

For the most part, the weather was OK- light rain through much of the hike, but our gear kept us pretty dry apart from the last quarter mile where we got a little wet. That said, it probably worked in our favor as we had most of the hike to ourselves. It was a fun hike.

Dinner tonight was at the Black Spruce restaurant- just across Neddy Harbour. It was a pleasant surprise - food and atmosphere were both great. We had oysters, charcuterie and lobster risotto. (The oysters were so good we asked for a second order.) Overall, if visiting Gros Morne National Park we think staying in Norris Point is the way to go.
