Day 31 (Aug 24, 2024) Ingonish, NS to Cape Anguille, Newfoundland

We gained both a province and a half-hour today. Our drive from the Keltic Lodge to the Newfoundland Ferry was beautiful- complete with a rainbow.

We left pretty early to make our 10:15 check-in for the ferry to Channel-Port aux Basques in Newfoundland.

We were about an hour early so we explored North Sydney where a fishing boat had just come into port and was preparing flounder to load into an 18-wheeler (which was waiting as they cut the heads off, iced the bodies and loaded into crates). It was pretty cool to watch (although a little gruesome).

The ferry ride was about 6 hours and not too crowded. Only downside was no power, but our devices lasted the journey. We lucked out as we got to our car just when it was time to drive off the boat. We had a short drive to our next destination, the Cape Anguilla Lighthouse Inn, the western most point of Newfoundland. We arrived and the very kind inn keeper, Patsy, told us our dinner would be ready in 15 minutes. We unpacked our stuff, walked out to watch the seals playing in the water and then went in for a private home cooked dinner for two of cod with fresh vegetables. It was pretty unique- the kindness of Canadians continues to impress us.
