Day 29 (Aug 22, 2024) Ingonish NS

Today was a day of snakes and frogs. We started the day early with one of the signature hikes in Cape Breton Highlands - the Broad Cove Mountain trail (1.5 mi).  The hike was fun - short but steep and rocky, with 3 toads (small, medium and large) on the way up.  We were rewarded for our early start with a beautiful view at the top all to ourselves. About 2/3rds of the way down we started passing people going up and when we got to the bottom, the parking lot was full.

Our second hike was an easy walk around Warren Lake (3.4mi) with several toads, one orange frog, and 3 snakes. The hike was beautiful and flat - which was welcome given our tired feet.

Lunch was on the patio at the Keltic Lodge in the Highlands- AKA Fairyland - our home for the next two nights, followed by our third hike of the day Middle Head Trail (3.2mi). The rave reviews on AllTrails for this hike were spot-on, it was a great hike- beautiful views, well maintained, supplemented by perfect weather.
